Small Facet Wood + Brass Petal Candle Holder Knysna Yellow Wood
Hand carved faceted wood candle holder with hand forged brass holder for the candle. Each candle holder is unique. The first piece (Yellow Wood 1, see first photo) is made from a beautiful piece of Knysna Yellow Wood that have a small knot on the one facet and small amount of spalting on both side facets. Spalting is when a fungi grow inside the wood and forms a zone line (dark stripe) in the grain of the wood. In order to keep the spalting, I didn't sand the surfaces with the spalting, but rather used a metal hand scraper to show off the grain texture of the spalting. The second smaller piece (Yellow Wood 2, see fourth photo) have less spalting than the first piece, and a slightly bigger knot on the one bottom facet. The spalting is only visible on one side facet.
Each piece of wood is sanded to a very fine finish and treated with Danish Furniture Oil, which gives the wood a rich lustre, but still shows off the natural beauty and the grain of the wood. The Brass Petal is finished with a brush finish and polished with Wright's Brass Cream.
